The Carolina Fly Fishing Club brings together coldwater, warmwater, and saltwater anglers from across North and South Carolina — sharing what we know about fly tying, casting, and the water itself, one meeting at a time.
Carolina Fly Fishing Club started in 2006 as a charter club of Fly Fishers International, with a simple idea: bring together anglers who cast a fly, whatever water they cast it on. That's still true today. Our members chase wild and stocked trout in the mountains, bass and panfish across the Piedmont, and redfish and false albacore along the coast — and they show up to the same meeting to talk about all three.
Every month we bring in a speaker or a guest tyer to teach something specific — a new pattern, a casting fix, a stretch of water most of us haven't fished yet. Fly tying and casting instruction are core to what we do, for members brand new to the sport and members who've been at it for decades.
We also put time into causes bigger than any one member's fishing log. CFFC volunteers with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and Casting for Recovery, using fly fishing as part of the recovery process for veterans and for women affected by breast cancer.
Tied at a club meeting, taught by a member who's fished it for years.
CFFC doesn't specialize in one kind of water, and our members don't either.
Wild and stocked trout in the freestone streams and tailwaters of the mountains — the classic dry-fly and nymphing water most members learned on.
Largemouth bass, panfish, and the occasional carp on the lakes and rivers closer to home — good water for a weeknight after work.
Redfish, speckled trout, and false albacore for members willing to trade waders for a skiff and chase fish on the flats.
Come to a meeting before you decide if the club is for you — visitors are always welcome.
Fly tying, guest speakers, and a fair amount of arguing about what the water's doing this month.
An informal tying session held at the same Bass Pro Shops on a separate evening each month. No set agenda — bring a vise if you have one, or just come watch and listen to a few fish stories.
